Hey — my name is Mike

I am here to seek help with my addiction to online porn.  Will you be able to help me with any questions and advice?

I have been doing porn for many years now and I am sick of it.  It is that one thing that I cannot stop doing… i give it up for a few weeks, but then get so tempted that I go back to the internet and do it all over…this constant on again off again is driving me crazy.

I feel all alone… who can i share this problem with?  I am ashamed of myself.. I live in constant fear that my wife will find out what I do on the computer while she is out of the house… I am not sure what her reaction would be if she found out.. I don't want to lose my marriage, children, home…

Where do I start?

MikeD,

Your story sounds very much like my own.  We know that using porn is wrong, but we have such a craving for it we just do it.  The shame and regret afterwards and the feeling of helplessness is all common to.

Don't give up!!  There is hope to breaking the porn addiction cycle.  You can stay clean for longer than a few days or a week.

My first suggestion to you is to notice when & where you are when you act out.  Do you do this only when your wife is not home?  Do you use porn on a certain computer?  What leads up to a porn session?  Is it something that sets you off during the day to cause you arrousal or maybe its the TV??

Go ahead and live like normal, except you need to monitor yourself.  How do you feel leading up to a porn session? etc.. etc… be observant and write down your thoughts.  This will help you get to understand yourself.
