Inflatable Mattress Air Beds have come a long way from the original blow up mattress you may remember camping as a scout. Today’s air beds are just as comfortable as the one in your bedroom and some are even better!

Air bed technology makes them lightweight, durable and plush. You can pack away one of these air beds and not break a sweat! They are made of materials such as heavy vinyl and fabrics that wear well over time.

Air mattresses used to be something you had to blow up using your mouth or a small hand pump. Talk about getting dizzy blowing it up! You don’t have to worry about that now. Most units have a built in air pump that runs a a set of D cell batteries. Turn the pump on and go about your business, it will be done in 20 minutes.

On the higher end air beds, you will encounter beds that have coil springs. This makes these inflatable mattresses feel almost as great as the bed in your bedroom.

The amount of money you spend on one depends on where you will use it. For camping you can spend between $30-$60 dollars and get a durable and comfortable mattress for camping.

If you are in the market for something a bit more plush like for a quest bedroom, you will be happy about your options. Anywhere from $60-$120 will get you a super nice air mattress.

Inflatable Air Blowers

If you have an inflatable bounce house, you need to make sure your inflatable air blower is in top condition. This blower is the key to safety for all the participants inside your inflatable. If you have ever had the blower cut out while children were inside you know what I mean. Chaos happens as kids rush for the exit while screaming and pushing and generally freaking out.

Your blower needs to be inspected regularly and in some states, it is a mandatory annual inspection. When you inspect your inflatable air blower, here are a few things to check on.

  • Inspect the power cord - make sure there are no cuts or burnt spots on the cord. Also check the plug itself and make sure the ground prong is present. If there is any nicks in the cord or the plug is faulty, replace the whole cord.
  • If your inflatable air blower is equipped with a fuse, make sure it is clean and the contacts on either side are in good shape. Excessive heat can discolor the fuse or the contacts and this is a sign of something else happening with your blower.
  • If you blower is serviceable, open up the case and clean it out. you would be surprised the amount of dirt that can get up inside the air handler over time.
  • Test you deflation back flow preventer. Make sure the back flow valve is working properly. A little oil wouldn’t hurt it where it is hinged.

If you air blower is making weird noises, creating excessive heat or is struggling to keep your inflatable up, it is time to buy a new blower.

When buying a new inflatable air blower, you need to size it properly to the inflatable it will be used with. Don’t risk safety by buying too small a blower. Check the CFM (cubic feet per minute) rating of the blower with the inflatable manufacturers specifications.

If you have been considering an inflatable pool for your backyard please read on as I tell you about the one I bought for my family. It seemed that all of our friends were getting pools put in one summer. My kids were extremely jealous and asked my wife and I if we could get a pool. I grew up with a pool and remember spending many summer days and nights swimming with family and friends. We played tons of Marco Polo, Basketball and volleyball. Those were some fun times.

My wife and I were OK with the idea of a pool and all the responsibilities, but we didn’t have the thousands to put up a decent above ground pool. We had driven by many yards that had the blue inflatable pools in their yards and wondered if they were any good. I mean, they were cheaper and you usually get what you pay for. We started doing some online research on these pools and read the reviews. Many of the reviews were positive so we decided to give it a try.

We bought the 18 ft round by 48 inch deep intex pool as you see in the picture above. Setting up the pool was easy enough. We found a flat part in the yard, rolled out the tarp and pool, then inflated the top ring. It took an overnight to fill this pool since it is over 5,000 gallons. Once filled, we built the ladder and installed the pump. My kids were excited to have their own pool and my wife and I even enjoyed swimming with them.

That pool lasted for 3 solid seasons and would have gone more if the inflatable top ring had not deteriorated so bad. The top ring was not in bad shape, it just leaked air and we couldn’t figure out from where. I think it just got porous enough to leak everywhere. Three seasons was not bad in my opinion, I got my money’s worth of use and enjoyment.

We are now on our second pool and even upgraded to the intex saltwater system! I highly recommend the saltwater system for any pool - I am really impressed with it. I have not had to buy any chemicals since using the system. It makes the pool very very low maintenance.

Bottom line: You will spend less money and get less life from the pool, but in my opinion these pools are the answer to summertime fun if a pool is what you want.

Inflatable Hot Tub - The easy way into the Hot Tub world

An inflatable Hot Tub is a low cost easy way to ease yourself into hot tubs. For under one thousand dollars you can get yourself a nice soaking tub that is easy to set-up, clean and use.

Take this one out of the box and easily inflate with the filtration system hose. Once inflated you should fill it with warm water so that it doesn’t take too long to heat up and enjoy. The filtration system also heats the water, so depending on the temperature of the water you use, it can take up to 24 hours to reach 104 degrees.

There is a cover with the tub that will keep dirt and debris out and the heat in while you are not using it. Compared to a ‘real’ hot tub, this one is not as hot and the jets don’t have the pressure. This was a bit of a bummer, but I can’t stand really hot hot tubs and the bubble from this system were pleasant and relaxing.

Overall, you can’t go wrong with this if you are looking for an entry level hot tub.
